william372,

I can't speak to Mike's tool but have used Tom's for years.  Wouldn't think of working on a ramrod without it.

I find that a 6" X 48" belt/disc sander with a 80 grit belt does the job from start to finish in 5 minutes, and will trim your nails as a bonus if you get careless  :>)

A drill bit gauge does a good job. I use Mike Leas tool to get close and the bit gauge to finish it
Guess it will wear out eventually but have been using the same one for at least 15 years and it still measures bits.

Also removes finger knuckle points, too.

Guess.

Ended up with a fistful of these veritas  tools graduated in 1/16s, not sure what they are suppose to do or what they are called but they helped taper a rod recently. Something similar would be an easy shop made tool if not for tapering they'd turn a hickory split into a RR in short order.

I have three sizes of these "cornering tools" use them often for radiusing edges without setting up a router. Tip: Go with the grain.

I tapered a rod with the half circle scrapers from Woodcraft.  $15 a set of two.  For some reason it didn't have a 5/16" half circle.  So, I got a drill bit and drew around it and ground one in between two others.  Took a little time, but what's time to a hog.(Punch line from an old
Frank Bartlett joke.)
