Dangler rifle

Well I made the auction Friday evening and didnt really recognize anyone there.  Thought I might get a great deal on that rifle.
I inspected it pretty closley and it was certainly made by someone that knew their craft.  Really nice carving, fit. etc.
It was a 45 cal best I could tell but the barrel was so dust filled I could not get my bore lite down, then I couldnt get it out.  But finally did.
I think the bore was fine but really couldnt tell.
The people there knew little of the gun or the owner other than it had been bought for an unappreciative son that didnt like guns.  That sort of scared me cause I wondered that if it had been fired years ago if it had ever been cleaned properly.
What concerned me most was the signature.  I guess I should have asked, but I had assummed it would have been engraved by hand?
However it had been stamped with letter stamps.  Well done and even, but stamped.  That was sort of a surprise to me.  Also, Homer and others indicated that there were + signs instead of periods for the first two initials.
These were periods, not + (plus) sighns????
Still I bid and almost got it for $800.00!!!!   After what seemed like a long time at $800 all of a sudden it started again and ended at $1100.00.   Which still was a great price.  But I just didnt need it that bad.
I am glad I got to see it though, and thank all that had informative and interested comments.
Regards to all
