Hey Tim,

You have to dream sometimes.

I wonder if the glass powder horns that were traded to the eastern Indians came from this factory??

I'm sorry, but it just looks like a melted wine bottle to me.

It seems a bit big for a pocket horn, so I was wondering where or how a strap was ever attached to the back end, otherwise why have the bent, pseudo horn type curved neck when I think a straight flask type neck would have worked just fine if not better...

And for what its worth, I know I once saw a reference about French traders doling powder to the N/As in glass bottles, but I think it was a lot earlier than the 1750s...and I have not been able to relocate the reference again anyway... oh well..

Tim,

This is not primary documentation but-----:

In "Sketch Book 56, Vol. VI, Indian Allies", pp.14, by Ted Spring.  He mentions that by 1756, the French and Indian War Period, French Traders were trading glass powder horns to Indian Allies of the French.  Mr. Spring also mentions that "Finger Woven" cloth powder horn straps were being used.

There is all kinds of info on the net about glass powder horns, even those made at the Wistarburgh glass factory. Lots of pictures of glass powder horns also.

Don't they sell these at Williamsburg. There's a guy on one of the other boards that sells these. I think his name is Killsmany.

You did luck up.  I sell some on ebay every so often to keep the $$$$ circulating.  I just got one from ebay that is an original that I am going to put together with a rig.  Nothing fancy, picked it up for a few bucks.
