Finally finished my 2nd rifle, a chambers york.  Turned out better than my first rifle, so that's a win I suppose.  Still so much to learn with these but I sure do enjoy it.  This one I made for Dad, who started me down the road of muzzleloaders many years ago.  He has been shooting a great plains kit that he put together, oh probably 25 yrs ago.  I decided it is time to introduce him to the world of flintlock :)

Youre dad is going to love that rifle.You did an awesome job.Nice patina on the brass.What did you use for youre stain?

Stained it with some TOW aqua fortis I had leftover from my first gun and then chambers oil over that, with a little bone black to help the carving stand out.

Your second gun!  A very nice job.  I like your balance in decoration.  Just right in my opinion, very well laid out.

Great Job.  That's some pretty carving.  Nice overall feel.   One small suggestion...  A little narrower box lid might be something to consider.  Thanks for posting.

Thanks for all the comments.  I didn't try to copy anything in particular, carving wise, but rather just makes something that flowed well together.  Being I've never had the oppptunity to lay eyes on an original, I had to rely on just looking at pictures from the RCA books.  It was a fun project.

I really like the carving design too.  It's a great use of space and is uncluttered.  Outstanding for a second attempt.
