I'm considering using a wooden bbl rib on a half stock to cut some weight off.  What are some ways to attach the rib?( what about epoxy?   Thanks   Phil

The two original fire damaged old guns I have examined that had wood ribs, had extremely shallow dovetails, and folded brass sheet metal tenons. This would preserve the strength of the wooden rib, since less wood must be removed to inlet the tenon. By the way, one rib was hickory, and the other appears to be either ash, or oak, it is too burned to be sure. If the barrel is thick enough you could use stake in tenons as well.

I like those wooden under ribs. The contrast of the different kind of woods make the rifles stand out.

Not sure this was a large under rim or an atempt to replace the forestock.
I think it was originaly a full stock.

Are there any suggestions for woods to use for underribs? I'm currently sticking one in very curly maple. Thinking cherry or mahogany. other ideas?

That's probably the encouragement I needed. I have a piece of curly maple from the same plank. I have so much in my scrap bin that I have too many options. I guess that makes it possible to screw up several times.  ;D
