Percussion Lock Identification?
« on: May 11, 2016, 09:30:42 PM »
Does anyone know who made this lock?  It is from the late '90's if I was told correctly.  Many thanks in advance.   Marc

Looks like a L & R Hawken percussion that someone engraved to me.
I take that back, hammer is different than the L&R.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Thanks guys.  I found it.  It is the TMA Dayton Traister "Griffith" lock.  I found it in a back-catalog page from The Hawken Shop.  It also shows the matching Hawken tang and snail.  The catalog says "All parts made in USA", but you know longrifles a lot better than I do Mike!  You've produced some beauties.
Best wishes,   Marc

After taking a closer squint at that lock it MIGHT be a Griffith Brothers lock.
I have a foggy memory of the big screw heads but I see no name or logo
of any kind.

It is  post Griffith brothers  vintage.  Same castings  different workmen Think I have one of Georges left somewhere around here. It even has the J&S Hawken stamp on it.
