KC, regarding the horn ramrod tip, I should mention that I also did some of the initial horn shaping with my 18th century vintage 1" belt sander. Belt sanders work nicely on horn. Gotta love that burnt hair smell! Also, if your horn tip is loose on the drill bit when you spin it, you can put in a fat screw a little ways, cut off the head, and use it to hold the horn in your drill or drill press during final shaping.
