Horn With Four Rings
« on: June 17, 2016, 03:16:12 PM »
This one is about 13" around the outside curve. The Walnut base is about 2 1/4", it is held in place by 4 pins. The tip is two part antler, the ball at the tip is a repair where the tip cracked, it is also antler and attached with 3 pins. The four Rings were heated and pressed on then held in place by 3 pins each.
Color is some old Dyes mixed together.

Love this Horn!
When you refer to dyes, what are you referring to please sir? Like Rit or other? Do you have your shoe polish on there too?

Thanks.
Rick

Thanks Rick. I've got a gallon milk jug that I dump old dye, some Rit, although I don't use that much any more, some oil based leather dye, leftover Green Tea, just a mix of stuff. Dump it in a pot add the horn and let it boil, take it out and stick a sizer in it. Obviously not something you could accurately reproduce. And yes, there is a coat of Brown shoe polish on it, I use that so routinely, as in on all my horns that I forgot to mention it.

Beautiful horn and I love the stained color !!!

Nice Tim. I'm using shoe polish more all the time. Works well and it is very controllable. Easy to remove as well.

That is a very artistic horn Tim.  The rings in the tip complement the ones on the horn.  I especially like the way your stain/dye took on the scraped finish.  Someone is going to be happy owning that one.   :-)  Marc
