H. Slocomb Homer

I have this rifle, I would like to know the history. Can anybody help?
.40 cal. -  32" barrel - 1" across the flat - total length 48"
On top of barrel: "H.Slocomb Homer".

You've got a solid, but rather plain hunting rifle by Harding Slocum of Homer, New York. He moved from Massachusetts to Homer in the 1820's and died there in 1863.
