Shoulder Stock Pistol
« on: July 16, 2016, 12:00:03 AM »
Guys,

This is one of those rather unusual things that English gentlemen had way back when.  Not really useful, but interesting - sort of like a gold pocket watch or a silver headed swagger stick.  Caliber 0.51, 12 inch barrel, smoothbore.

That is a handsome pistol James. I hadn't an idea they had removeable stocks for them back in the day.

Guys,

Not too common, but these were made for English gentlemen.  Many still exist since, unlike American Longrifles, they were almost never used.

Very nice set of pistols. What's ironic is I have a modern rifle with the same stock profile. Thanks for showing.

Guys,

Yes, this type of hollow or skeleton stock is not a new invention at all.  I believe that this design made a very light weight stock that would not put so much load on the joint between the pistol grip and the shoulder stock.  The joint was done using two different designs.  The one I used is a 1/4 turn fastener, the other is a spring loaded clip.  Here are some more photos of the 18th century pistol shoulder stocks.
