Tim Tansel inspired powder horn
« on: July 26, 2016, 12:02:27 AM »
Howdy,
This Tim Tansel inspired powder horn is a combination of a drawing of a Tansel horn by Shelby W. Gallien in published Muzzleblasts some time ago and one that got to handle and photograph. I changed up the shooter to be a Frontiersman.
Constructive criticism is always appreciated.

Really well done Rick. Your carving is right on the money and the file work is outstanding.

Thanks Tim. I feel like it is solid Journeyman work, but I have work to do to make it stellar. When one takes on a well recognized historic maker it is a humbling experience.

Added: And when I see the Tansel work done by Art DeCamp, it makes me want to study more and work harder at getting it right.

Thank you again for your encouragement for these past years.

Rick

Rick,...great looking horn. Love the color. I've got a couple of in process Tansels goin at the moment and have been working on a "practice eagle" on a spare horn. The Tansels were very prolific and I think they represent a great story,..I dig up what information I can find on them on the net all time. I keep hoping someone will produce a super nice book with family history and photos along with detailed info on their time in Kenetucky and Indiana I think it was. Also a whole ton of Tansel horn pics of course. They just had a lot of influence,....lots of people still making their style today.  I wonder if there is still any in the family that has been passed down over the years?  Anyway,..nice piece  -Aaron

aaronc,
I know the guy who should write the book. I will see him this weekend at Dixon's. We will see.

Also, if you want to have a phone call I can tell you my personal observations on Tim Tansel's work. Send me a personal message and let me know.

Very credible work Rick.  It appears you are not only a maker of nice T shirts.
