Old Lock Needs Fixin'
« on: February 10, 2024, 09:07:05 PM »
Recently acquired a beautiful French "Stalking Gun".  Double barreled, smooth 16 ga on left barrel, about .35 cal rifled barrel on the right.

Made in France c. 1850, so roughly 125 years old.  The stock is gorgeous, the two percussion locks really good, except both cocks appear to be taken directly from the mold and installed.

BUT, the right lock is a set-trigger lock and won't hold on full cock.  Apparently, the sear step needs to be stoned a wee bit - and that is something these gnarly, shaky hands are reluctant to tackle.  Plenty of stones, diamond to natural, even a few synthetic ones.  However, no ability.

Is there anyone on the forum who can tackle this?  Or know of anyone who might?  Sure would be happy to get this done. The lock is superbly polished inside, and does have a fly.

Thanks in advance on your thoughts.

That was fast, Smylee!  Do you have a number, or is it on the interweb?

Brad Emig at Cabin Creek is your man.  Call him and good luck.  Also, pictures would be nice.

Just got a new phone.  Soon as I practice a bit with the camera.

Thanks for the Brad Emig/Cabin Creek reference!
