Half cocked update
« on: September 30, 2016, 09:29:02 PM »
To all those who offered up their lock problem solving skills under the previous topic "Inconsistently half cocked situation": Thanks.... and to close the loop.

The solution was a longer fly.

After comparing the old fly and new fly in operation, these quotes from member EC121 were right on:

“If the fly nose is level with the tumbler it is too short.” That's the way it was.

“The point of the fly should extend a bit past the edge of the half cock notch for the sear nose to push it out of the way for half cocking.” That's the way it is now.

Works fine.

I had been following the posts regarding the fly and it was great participation. Of course hindsight is 100% I thought
EC121was knocking on the resolve just as smoketown.
There is an easy way to check the fly function and you know it now. The sear controls the fly and when in full cock the fly is fully visible and with your thumb nail for being able to swing easily plus check the fly height for slight protrusion past the tumbler. No grease on a fly. The point on the fly is for the sear to flop forward and back. The inventor was really cleaver. It appears that inertia rather than sear Control was the confusing factor. Glad you won.
