Ball and Shot bags

Every once in a while I get the urge to make a batch of these.  I seem to know a lot of talented lathe-workers and I wait till I accumulate a bunch of them from different people.   They're fun to make because of the sheer variety of materials, sizes, dimensions and styles you can do.  You can add some creative unique touches to them too.  The book "Gettin' the Lead Out" by Karl Z Smith is great because it shows how varied they were made. Thanks Tim. All but three have clothes pin style stoppers, those were turned by Ron Hess.  Two I made corn-cob stoppers for, and one has the cane shot measure as a stopper.

I definitely need a small lathe, thats been on my to do list for a long time.

The double bag is found on the cover and inside the book "Getting the lead out" by Karl Z Smith. I don't want to post the pictures because it's a published book. Like most of the bags in there isn't much info on them, just speculation and description of sizes and dimensions and materials.

Steve Radosovich made a copy once too that I know of. It's not difficult to make once you figure out the construction. It also functions well feeding different size lead out of either compartment. It also seems to elicit humorous comments about its shape from everybody.

Smith's book is a great one to have. I get my copy down sometimes just to browse and marvel.

There's a ball bag shaped like a turtle on the classifieds over at the MuzzleLoadingForum that I really like... if it weren't so expensive, I'd have bought it.
