Question for Mike Brooks
« on: November 07, 2016, 09:24:17 AM »
I'm curious if Mike Brooks or any other prolific builder has ever had a book published with photos of the guns built over the years. It would be interesting to see such a treasury of the volume of work produced by a single builder over a lifetime. I know that most builders list a few rifles on their websites, but I'd really like to see a compiled anthology covering many, many rifles over a period of time.

Mike have you ever thought of such a project as you approach your magic number of 400 builds?

Cool, a question just for me! :P all my records are digital and go back maybe 15  years or so. I have alot of guns on my website.     http://fowlingguns.com/
Or, I have tons of photos of guns that never made it to my website on my photobucket site which is:
http://smg.photobucket.com/user/Gunmaker/library/?sort=3&page=1      All the guns are listed on the left side, many are listed by number and many are not.

I have no plans for a book. I don't think there would be enough interest to justify the effort and expense.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

MikeI disagree about no interest in a book. I can tell you how you can publish it without laying out over $40 or so. If interested let me know.

I would very much be interested in purchasing such  a book if available. I think interest would   be quite good. It seems to me that books on original longrifles are in high demand with price tags to match.Contemporary builders also have their following. Not everyone can afford to purchase all of the styles of rifles that interst them, but books are useful in keeping everyone connected to this great hobby. I always marvel at the skills, knowledge and artistry displayed by contemporary builders as well as the  historical builders. I hope Mike and other builders that might come across this posting. give some thought about such a book.
The posting  on squirrel rifles generated hgh interest from those wanting to show their rifles as well as intersest from those that wanted to see them.

Would also buy one. But only if it showed greater detail of the guns. Like Tom Currie posted of his award winning Leheigh at Dixon's. Only used his as an example because he did an outstanding job on his photo layout. Many other's have done as well. One better idea would be a collaboration of several of the builders on this sight! Input anyone?

Well there's the crux of the biscuit. Most everything I have built in the past 15 years is on my photobucket site. My photography skills are too crude to use for a book. I'd have to pay a professional to shoot new photos worthy of printing in a book, can't afford that....I can't imagine how I'd gather  up enough guns to photograph for a book anyway.
Besides, you can see all of my work you want on the internet for free.......

I did look at all of the photos Mike listed in the posting above. I appreciate him listing the websites and his willingness to share his work with us.
