Rifle for my granddaughter
« on: April 05, 2009, 07:37:43 AM »
When I started on this rifle, I informed my granddaughter I was building a rifle for a young person and asked her for insights regarding what did this like for inlays and styling.  She chose all the inlays and even drew the cat inlay for me.

Then I got her involved in actually helping me make the rifle in the early stages.  Here she is cutting out the notch for the drum in the stock.  My other granddaughter is watching her.

Here is a link to the finished rifle with a photo of my granddaughter after she saw the finished rifle and read her name engraved on the top flat of the rifle.

Here is a link listing all the links showing the process of building the rifle from a blank and many of the parts were hand forged and the barrel was hand inletted.

Hope you like it.

Hoot Al,

This is the kind of thing that will keep our sport going.  We need more people doing what you are doing.  Your  granddaughters are lucky to have a grandfather like you.

Hey Hoot, is that pink saw hers or yours?? You know - for that delicate cut :D Just a joke ;D ;D. You done well and keep up the fine work. I just sent off a inlet job to Fred Miller for my grand son's rifle - it's time to get started on it after seeing all the dad's & grand dad's supplying the young "militia" with fine rifles I don't want to have my grand son standing at attention with a pitch fork in his hand ::) ::)!!

You've done a wonderful thing for your granddaughter, Hoot.  You can bet she'll remember this!  You've also created an heirloom for her as well as a practical arm for her enjoyment.  Kudos.
