A couple of Hawken Rifles for you to look at
« on: November 14, 2016, 08:35:10 PM »
The first rifle is a rifle that I am currently finishing. It is a 54 cal with a 31"x 1" staight tapered to 7/8" FCI barrel. Davis lock, L&R triggers and the rest is parts that I got from TOW. The stock is a piece of hard maple that I picked up about 20 years ago and had been saving for the right project.

This second rifle is one I built a couple of years ago. It was built using the Hawken Shope parts.

I have the parts to build another Hawken which I am going to work on after the first of the year. It is going to be a 58 cal straight tapered 1 1/8" to 1" 36" long on a nice piece of maple. This rifle has not been spoken for as of yet so if any of you are looking or thinking about having one built it will be available.

My memory is not that great but I think it was a 58 cal with a 36" 1 1/8 to 1" straight taper.

Both rifles are completely credible...but I like the first one better!  Great workmanship and attention to detail.  Thanks a lot for showing us your work.

It is possible to edit the first post and change the title, and/or any other gramatickle errorfications.

Great rifles there, the wood on the first one is super dooper.

Smarty..... ::) I was slow getting here as I'm not all that wacky about plains rifles, but these are nice of course as I would expect them to be out of bama's shop. In fact I'd be proud to own either one of them.
But I think I liked them better as Hakens..... ;D

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

I think Haken is the Massachusetts pronunciation.

I don't. I was born and brought up in Mass, and I say Hawken.

So, there.

You guys really know how to make an old Alabama boy feel bad about his spelling, I believe I got my feelings hurt! :'( Nah down here in Bama if we just get close on the spelling we feel like we did well! ;D

Anyway guys when my customer first talked about the engraving on the patch box he said he did not want a lot of engraving. So I gave him a simple boarder and his initials and a starburst around the head screw. I sent him a picture to see if it agreed with it and he decided he wanted a little more engraving so here is what we came up with.
