Iron Beck worm holes finished

Well I recently finished the rifle that was subject of the worm holes discussion a while back. It uses J.P. Beck architecture and aged steel furniture, with a Siler flintlock converted to percussion and .45 cal. x 36" B wt. swamped barrel. The premise for the build was: An early, say 1770-80's Beck that was converted to percussion around 1820, so it would need to look aged, but cared for and have steel furniture (like her partner's). It was built for a lady so it needed a 13" pull and lighter weight than most early guns. This comes in at 6.8 lbs. and my wife says it fits her quite well with good balance, though it's not for her. Only problem might be the rear spur on the trigger guard may not be placed well for a woman's smaller hand. We'll see. Maybe it should have a lot of dents and scratches too, like my own 13 year old Beck flinter. I'll let the new owner handle that.

Although I like my worm holes to go in instead of making trenches ......it's a nice looking gun. I like the color of the wood and metal.

Beach metal finish? In the future I'd knock of the corners of the barrel a bit, but that's just me.

Thanks for all the positive feedback, guys.
It was awful hard to build this rifle without a wooden patchbox. Several times I had to walk away for a while to resist the temptation.
Customer's orders....no carving, no patchbox, no inlays, just a functional firearm. I'm sure J.P. Beck must have had similar requests, which he probably handed over to his apprentice.

Yes, bleach metal finish. Yes, I should have rounded the edges! Got to make myself a checklist of things not to forget.

Well, right off let me say I could not come remotely close to turning out something this nice.  Love the color and the metal finish and all the components go together very well.

So please forgive me but to my eye the worm holes are not appealing and I guess I should apologize as everyone else likes it.  Save the worm holes for someone else.

I think you've done a really nice job with this rifle.  I'm not big on the worm holes, but I love the robust nature of the gun and I think you've captured the feel of a Beck very well.  I like your finish a lot, as well.  It's a relatively plain gun but has a lot of appeal.
