Mondena Patchbox release?
« on: December 13, 2016, 05:36:07 AM »
Im building a fullstock flint, yes flint Hawken rifle and want to install the Modena type patchbox on it. Ive seen this question asked on the forum but didn't really see a clear answer. Would a post and spring type release with a push button in the toe plate be correct?

thanks Scott F.

The Medina Hawken patchbox lid is held shut by an 'over center' type closure like you'll find in the more common Hawken patchboxes. The cam is attached to the lid by two iron rivets on the center line of the lid and approx 3/8" apart and 3/8" from the main lid hinge. I believe it was opened with a thumbnail at the butt end.

Best,
John.

Can't wait to see you Hawken.  I contemplated using the Modena style patchbox on my fullstock Hawken.  I have always believed that the Modena patchbox was originally on a fullstock flint rifle of some sort prior to being repurposed on the Modena rifle.  I could be completely out in left field but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
