Identifying wool....
« on: December 31, 2016, 12:08:55 AM »
I'm trying to determin if a capote I just acquired is made from a 100 pct wool blanket or a wool/nylon.   No label, but has 4 point marks, and may be from a Witney point blanket.   I remember reading once that you could burn a small sample of fabric and tell from the ash.   Anybody know what ash from wool looks like?   I tried a bit just about the size of a pea, got a black ash that crumbles with no hard lumps like I'd expect if I'd burned something with nylon.  Thanks, SCL

If it burns to ash it is Wool, if it has Nylon or Poly in it it will melt more than burn.
