....Greetings.....Was just wondering if anyone makes and sells a proper looking Tennessee style double set triggers..

...with correct straight front trigger and half circle rear in profile......also anyone making & selling hand forged Trigger guards and Buttplates ...!!!..Used to be a fellow in Tullahoma TN.... John Anderson, who made great parts....anyone here know of him...??...He made a fine TN. rifle...took patterns off an original Sam Keller rifle he owned.....THANX....!!!

Dunno who does this now, but remember that some Tennessee DST are offset, I think to the left. Roller used to make them but I believe he ceased that, a couple of years ago.

There's a tutorial on how you can make set triggers.... helps to have a drill press, but a hand drill will work too. It's in the tutorial section.

I know John and he does make a great Tennessee rifle. I'm not sure if he still has any of his castings left. He had a trigger kit but it was single set. He also had a good percussion lock kit suitable for a Southern rifle. I'm sure his number is listed. Look it up and give him a call. If you can't find it PM me and I'll give you his number.

I too know John Anderson but haven't talked to him in a about a year. He's my "local" guru and just had a batch of castings done up last year or so, I will be using them on my next two builds (or more, if there are any left-I have no idea how big the run was). They are cast or course, not forged. But also you can heat 'em up and bang on 'em.

Pretty sure you'll have to modify or make your own triggers do the shapes of the originals.

I make Bean, Soddy, Lawing, LB, and McKee triggers and guards. Butt plates and patch boxes too. All are reproduced from originals in the Myron Carlson Southern Mountain Rifle collection and no, I don't use castings; I hand forge everything as Myron taught me.

I met this fellow at the 1st Annual Alabama Kentucky Rifle Show this weekend and bought several SMR style butt plates and trigger guards from him. They were quite well done;

Southern Mountain Rifles
Ronnie Boytdston
828-734-seven seven three two.

TVM had a table and, quoting Fiddler " ...with correct straight front trigger and half circle rear in profile. They had a pile of them and I bought two. They were made from castings, a bit gritty feeling, but one could tune them and smooth them out with some work.

TVM: 662-594-one zero five seven.

...Thanx Dave....I was there and saw Ronnie's work too....He does great work...John used to make a trigger set that was direct casting from a Keller rifle.....front trigger had that correct "half round" profile where the pivot pin goes....springs were correct E. TN. style too...Thanx for info...!!

I'm glad to hear there is a craftsman continuing the legacy of Mr. Carlson's work. I spent many hours at his booth at Friendship over the years and I still have several butt plates and triggerguard made by him.

TN. makers.....Your set will be perfect on that NC mountain hog rifle....Please keep us posted on progress.... What wood, barrel length, caliber are you using......I have a feeling you are building an outstanding rifle....POST PIX...!!!

Thanks, Traveller and Fiddler. The wood is curly maple, .45 cal 48" barrel, hand forged wrought iron butt plate and triggerguard.

Interesting thread but like Jim said,I made a couple of them a while back but have no
plans to make any more.These were off set to the right and one went to Jim and the other
to Taylor.

I would have responded sooner but I've been spending a few hours learning how to uplaod a photo with my old computer.
Here are some of the Guards I refered to;

Top is a welded Bean as on "Old Scaley"
Next one from the top is a McKee; copper sweat construction as original.
Next is a Bean style as on the "Boone Tree" rifle; riveted and copper sweat.
3/4 size Bean boy's rifle; riveted and copper sweat.
The rifles I refer to are from Myron's originals and Ron Borron's prints, again from original Southern Mountain Rifles.
These are some of the reprodutions of originals I learned how to make from the master Myron Carlson.

Here is most of a Bean set, in 3/4 size. All forged, riveted and copper sweat construction.

Top is a McKee
Bottom is a "Boone Tree" size Bean

I had stop making these for a while, did other things (had a daughter), but I am back. I would like to do my best to honor the original builders of Southern Mountain Rifles and the gentlemen like Myron Carlson and Jim Hash that took the time to show a dumb kid like me how to accurately recreate them.

Thank you for your patience and interest in these parts. I've been through some computer troubles and I'm using an older pc until I get mine fixed. My computer skills are about as good as an Amish Blacksmith's. Those that would like a price list please PM me and I'll get something to you as soon as I can. Log Cabin Shop has my first little book on triggers I put together with Myron's help and patience in 1992.
