Not sure which magazine it was, but about 15-20 years ago someone had an article about building one from scratch. I think he got it built, but I never read any more about it. Probably donated it to a museum.

Well If I had a going business full of machine tools and a sack full of apprentices needing something to do, in that case;
I could have the baddest signal cannon around. Otherwise it's just going to be a single.
