Nice looking gun. Is that a swiveling patchbox lid?

Nice rifle, Joe. I have some curly ash I've been drying for some future builds. Thanks for sharing.

That's an awesome looking rifle. It looks like a great piece of wood, finished beautifully. I also like the metal finish, a good close-up of the lock would be nice if you decide to add any more pictures.

Thanks guys . Heres the lock. The stock has a bit of a red tint thats not really showing in the pics. Its stained with aquafortis then two coats of finish , a little black paint then two more coats of finish.

nice grain! How is it for balance (I am not familiar with the wood's density)

I'm kind of curious about ash as a stockwood. I was under the impression that ash, with its open grain, would be more sensitive to changes in ambient humidity then walnut or maple, and in consequence any rifle stocked in ash would more prone to problems with changes in the point of impact than one stocked in close-grained wood.

Ash always struck me as a good, durable stock for a utility smoothbore, but I didn't think it a particularly good choice for a rifle.

Can't find anything on the dimensional stability of ash, though, apart from an ad for wood flooring that states that it is "above average" (compared to what?), so perhaps my initial assumption is incorrect.

With a heavy barrel, I don't believe the changes in the wood due to moisture and sunlight, will have much affect.  The barrel holds the wood in place on something like that.  Modern rifles and small barrels, other way around.
