How long should a pistol tang, measured from the end of the tang to the barrel breech end, be?
Several book illustrations I have show the tang length to barrel diameter (or across the flats) ratio about 1.5 to 1. Thus a 1" barrel would have a tang 1.5" long. Seems about the same for American pistols, English military, coach, and dueling pistols ... as best I can measure from the photo.
