Jaeger Rifle Question "Daryl" ?
« on: March 15, 2017, 09:47:56 PM »
Hi all, I was searching for information on a gunsmith from New York state when I came across a tread discussing barrel length of a Jaeger rifle. One gentleman's, name of "Daryl", showed "a" or his Jaeger rifle made by a D. Taylor. Very pretty rifle and I would like to talk to Daryl about it or the builder. I tried to send him a PM but it didn't work. Thanks for the help.

Hi Ralph - I don't remember the thread, but probably showed the Jaeger Taylor (D Taylor Sapergia) built some time back.

I will e-mail him to bring this thread to his attention.

Was it this one?

That rifle I built for myself in 1996.  It has a Getz  31" barrel in .60 calibre, round groove rifling.  I shot a .595 ball patched with .020" cotton denim patch lubed with spit for the trail. and mink oil for hunting, over 86 gr. FFg GOEX.  The rifle has won me a lot of first place awards in shooting competition, and also many heads of game, including mule and white tailed deer, black bear, and moose.

The stock is of Western maple, brass furniture, rust blued barrel and case hardened lock, breech and triggers.  The patch box and nose piece are ebony.  The rifle now belongs to a local guide/outfitter.

Not many were capable of that kind of work in 1996. Heck, few are now.

No Ralph, I do not.  I do have a couple other rifles that Taylor built, but not that one.

Different style-  but I think just as nice, or maybe nicer.  Taylor thinks it's his best.

Best thing about it, it shoots really well, great accuracy potential and I am learning to shoot it quite well too.  Perhaps the 48" bl. helps?  It certainly gets me closer to the target.

Must use a damp box - with experience.  The browning is quite nicely and perfectly even.  He's good at it.

Indeed he is Daryl, indeed he is. Great workmanship there. Very sad to learn he doesn't make guns anymore. What a shame not to keep using that talent. Your a lucky guy to own a couple of his pieces.
