This is a split from the rib soldering thread. After I solder on a fowler front sight, I always have some solder to clean up no matter what I've tryed. Mostly due to my shakey hands. I use a chisel for the big stuff then sandpaper backed by a file etc. Cold blue will not color solder. I treat the soldered area with cold blue to highlight areas that need solder removed, then sand, scrape as needed to clean up the joint. Then wipe some cold blue on again to see if your done yet. If your happy just sand the cold blue off when your ready to brown or blue your barrel as part of your preparation. BJH
