That may be the nicest color I have ever seen on ash.  Lovely finish work.  Dunlap are great folks to work with.  They did you right on this piece of wood.   God Bless,   Marc

What are we going to do when all the ash is gone. The Emerald Ash Borer has killed almost all of it in central Pennsylvania

Very nice! Did you have that rifle at the 2021 Alabama show a few weeks ago? The "riveted" trigger guard looks familiar.

WOW....ummm.....WOW!!!!

I have an inordinate affection for Ash, having grown up in a 100 year old farm house that relied on Ash wood for heat.  A good portion of my childhood was spent cutting, hauling and stacking it.  I never dreamed that it could be made into something that beautiful.  Thank you for the post and pictures,

No this was not in Alabama recently. Been in Ohio since I put it together.

This is a post from a couple years ago, the pictures had a broken link.
Paul is building a very nice rifle with an exceptional piece of Ash and asked if I could restore the photos for some finish options.

Cant wait to see his finished.

Here is a picture midway through the finishing, after the black spray paint has been sanded and the first coat of Honey maple. The Honey Maple helps establish a nice undertone color and also shows off any scratches I missed while sanding.

That is a beautiful rifle and a job well done. I'm thinking of the same in cherry but I'm curious how well the 45 shoots with the 70" twist rate and what load works the best. Right now I'm leaning towards a 40 cal. 48" twist.

Of all the completed ash stocked rifles that I have seen, this one is without a doubt the most beautiful. The combination of the wood grade from Dunlaps, and your finishing technique gives the stock a depth of warmth that I have never seen in ash before.

Thanks again. I can only hope I do the wood justice. Have finishing supplies on order. Hopefully be able to stain and finish soon. Meanwhile, back to polishing metals. 

Nifty idea adding the copper rivets. I missed those before. Adds a nice touch.

Ditto all the above. I especially like the look of the trig guard pinned on with copper studs instead of screws. I been getting lazy lately and using screws, but have done the way you did many times also. Great job, keep at it.
Im gonna tell you what I have told several fellows here" Bet you cant build JUST ONE !!!! hahaha.

Just want to say you have amazing skills. I have been struggling with my Colonial kit I purchased. Kibler's excellent videos are my only saving grace. I tend to rewatch each video as I perform each part of the build. So far so good.

Glad I found this post! I sent Jim my own piece of Curly ash two weeks ago. I have been experimenting with finishes on my scrap. I loved how the grain is black on yours, and could not replicate it. Now I'll try the paint trick!
