I recently came across what is stamped C G Brooks rifle it is a 33 cal it is at lest 35 years old and is a plane jane gun with very little ingraving only on trigger gard and breach plug strap witch is very long ,the stock is cherry and poor quality wood. The lock, breach plug and barrel all have the number 656 stamped on them. The gun is very well built .It also has a brass star on cheek side of stock and a bird shaped patch box on other side also brass no engraving on ether one.I would like to know if there is anyone who could verify that this is truly a Brooks rifle ?

Cecil built a lot of guns over the years but what you are describing doesn't sound like one of them. It's possible you have a parts gun but that is speculation. A pic or two would help, include the signature, action and stock work.

Mr Brooks also supplied flintlock longrifles to the NRA to be presented at the Annual Convention to the guest speaker (I believe) back in the '70's - '80's (?). I'm thinking a few US Presidents received Brooks longrifles as well.
