Another Wrist Escutcheon for an English Fowler
« on: May 10, 2017, 01:38:38 AM »
Hi,
I cast this a few hours ago and am starting to clean it up and cut details with my die sinker's chisels.  It is for a 1760-1775 English fowler that is sized for a petite woman.  I redesigned some historical examples for that purpose.  I carved a model from hard maple and cast it in brass using Delft clay.  Now I have to clean it up, carve details with my chisels and gravers, and file away the flashing on the edges.  The next time you see this plate will be finished on the gun. I love doing this stuff.

Smart Dog. that's a nice looking job. You should try carving it in pear wood.

Smart Dog,

Nice job, looking forward to seeing it finished.  I also enjoyed talking to you up in Vt. two weeks ago.  Your gun
was exceptionally nice.  Wouldn't mind owning it myself.  My son was also impressed, talked about your rifle
on our way home.

Thanks for looking everyone.  It is all cleaned up, details cut, and inlet. Next up finish carving the rococo shell at the breech, final scrape the stock, stain, and finish.  Then some engraving and I am done. Oh, yeah, I've got to make a ramrod.  I'll post pictures.

Hi Dave,
It was great seeing you at the shoot.  I plan on being at your place for the 4th.  I am looking forward to it.  I am glad you and Dave Jr liked the rifle and thanks for the kind words.  It shoots really well too.  Eventually, there will be a matching fowler.  Take care.
