Jeff..., take a look at the excellent tutorial kingsburryarms posted.  A link can be found at the top of the page, under the "search" window...     

  When you reply to a post, or open a new topic, under the box where you type what you'd like to say is a "add image to post".  Tap that and it links you to imgbb.com.  It'll open in a new window with a message "select the images to upload".  Tap that and you can then choose photos from your photo album, which will then be uploaded and linked to ALR.  Hope that helps and makes sense!

little joe..., not that I'm specifically aware of off the top of my head on an American longrifle, but have seen the treatment on European rifles.  The carving and walnut accent pictured is on a longrifle I'm working on.  It's probably a little overdone for a Kentucky, but I'm going for something early, with strong European influences.

A rather short, large bore barrel?  What lock are you using?

SingleMalt..., I believe the barrel is 41".  It's a Rice, a cut down version of the "Dutch Lancaster", .54 cal.  I really like the profile.  I'm using a Chambers round faced Germanic lock.

Ed, that is fabulous lively carving. None better. It's better than most originals, done with more clarity of vision and confidence than many a master.

 I would like to point out that much of the art of wood carving is in the choice of wood.  Note that this piece is not  a highly figured piece of wood and is probably good and hard and dense.  Highly figured wood is not necessary when a rifle is to be decorated with very much carving and perhaps some fine wire work.  Many fine European Firearms were made with plainer wood. A lot of figure can actually distract from the other decoration.  This was a smart choice in my opinion.

Gorgeous carving as usual Ed.  I am still impressed that you are that good at it.....and fast!  Two thumbs up. 

I don't think it is overdone.  I think someone is ultimately going to be very happy with that rifle.
