  going to order some silver wire to make tacks to  hold silver thumbpiece. what size should i order?

I use .040" 18g silver wire.

I use bits left over from the old pre '65 coins I make inlays from. Just hammer them out into a nail then presto -change-o and a couple shakes from my magic woo-woo stick I got a nail.
