An original NC banded horn

<< < (5/5)

mbriggs:
Dennis,
I believe this horn or one identical to it was on display a couple of years ago at the Carson House on Hwy 70 west of Marion, N.C.  I studied it and took some photos of it. I remember the bird engraved on it.  I agree it is from the Piedmont.

Dennis Glazener:
My cousin is not into gun/horn shows and lives near Raleigh. May well have been another one similiar to it. Of course someone may have borrowed it and had it on display.

Hungry Horse:
So, how many years of wood fires, and, how much home grown turbacci had to be smoked around this horn to. Give it this much color?

Marcruger:
Hungry Horse, look at the close up showing the scrim.  It appears to me that someone at some point shellac finished the horn, and the shellac darkened.  In the close up it looks to me like the shellac finshed has cracked and crazed.

oldtravler61:
Dennis thanks for showing. Very nice horn an rifle set.

Tim mighty fine work also.  Oldtravler
