I like it. What patent breech is that?  Some specs, lock, barrel?

Rich;  Bill Large .54 cal barrel, straight octagon & patent breach, 37 1/2" long, 1 1/8" flat to flat.  Bob Roller Lock & triggers, TOW non-inletted curly maple 1/2 Hawken stock & mountings.  2 applications with heat Aqua Fortis followed by 10 hand rubbed coats of Tru Oil (heated on every application), 9 coats of gun stock wax also heated on every application.  Barrel & mountings were polished & heated to 200 degs, 2 applications of slow rust blue, washed, dried. 0000 steel wooded, & cleaned with Acetone before & after each coat..heated again to 150 degs. And applied 2 coats of Cold Blue wit same procedure as above.  13 7/8" pull, total weight 11.0 lbs, total length 52 1/2".

Rich. You may remember me from February 2014 when I started asking you & this forum many questions concerning the rifle I wanted to build..... since then I studied & researched the Hawken rile & have compiled a 3 1/2 " binder of information including following this forum for information & expertise!!!  I started this build February this year & completed last week!! Lots of measurements, bad words & sore hands & fingers!!!   May not be as good as some master builders on here but I sure am proud of it!!!!

Forgot to mention all the help I received from Bob Roller!  I am very grateful to Bob for taking my phone calls & all my shop visits, he is a wealth of information & expertise!!  I'm fortunate enough to live only 10 minutes away from Bob!!

Very nice!

I especially like how the lines of the cheek piece flow into the area on the opposite side of the lock.  (I am not sure what to call that part.)

Thank you all for kind remarks, I really appreciate the comments!!  Next build..    I was thinking about something with some silver inlays, I wanted to keep this rifle close to one of the original Hawken builds.

What do you guys think about an English sporting rifle?????

This Hawken copy is a fine one and when the fact it's the first build on
a VERY difficult style is considered,I would call it excellent and not just
because you used my lock and triggers.It would have looked good with
almost any lock and trigger by other makers.
The English flint lock half stock is a great idea and you won't have that
crescent butt plate to contend with.

If you want to go American and want a comfortable shooting rifle many early to Golddn Age rifles fit the bill. Don Getz favored JP Beck styles for shooting, I believe. His trigger guards were very comfortable.

On the other hand you have a rifle suitable for big game and maybe for fun you should think small caliber rifle or a smoothbore.

Rich, I was thinking of a small bore rifle... but this rifle will go to my grandson who loves to deer hunt & my other grandson is chomping at the bit wanting a deer hunting rifle from his Poppy!!  Lol

Nicely done - have you fired it yet or snapped a cap off? I ask this because it looks as if the hammer face is not parallel with the nipple face and it looks like the hammer will not contact the nipple square on -- maybe it's just the picture angle -- anywho -- I like it. ;) ;D

Yes, the hammer is parallel & has been squared with the nipple.... several caps has been fired just to make sure..    I haven't fired it yet, getting ready to though!!

Thank you Dave!!   We're pretty close, I'm in South Point, Ohio!!   I studied the Hawin builds & originals for 4 years before taking on this task!!  I'm trying to upload a few more pics, if I remember how I did these, ha!
