Looks inspired by the Old Holston and related "black" rifles, particularly.  Very clean, strong architecture.

Thanks, guys. This one is sold and will be going to Mississippi next week. The barrel has 1-66 twist, i think. I need more practice on carving, hopefully it looks acceptable for an American rifle.

I thought your carving looks pretty good, just keep doing more of it. And, keep in mind, there are some abnormally talented relief carvers here, don't be intimidated by their ability, learn from them, that's what I do! ;)

I really like that one.  I especially appreciate the curl peeking out of that dark finish. Very subtle and classy.  As was said above, the rubbed back blued metal works super with that dark stock finish.  I'll send my address so you can give it a good home.   :-)

Best wishes and God Bless,  Marc

Joe,

What did you use to make the stock that dark?
I really like it with the iron furniture.
I'd like to do the same with that ash stocked rifle.

I really like the looks of that gun; the carving, dark finish, and iron furniture all look great. I've not seen a sideplate like that before, did you make it? I like the way it fits the side panel, parallel with the panel lines and tail pointing down the wrist, IMO just the way it should be.

thanks for the kind words. The color is one fairly heavy application of store bought aqua fortis, allowed to dry overnight before blushing. Then i applied coats of tru oil until the wood wouldnt soak up anymore, allowing it to dry well between coats. This is usually about 3 coats. Then rub all the shine off with 000 steel wool and give the whole gun a LIGHT coat of flat black spray paint and when it drys rub most of it back off with the steel wool. Finally a couple more coats of finish.
The side plate is one i made.
