A while back someone asked about oven cleaner on cherry, since I had a cherry stock coming up I promised to post my results.I did'nt use oven cleaner I used lye(drain cleaner) on this stock.I used 1/2 teaspoon of lye to 1/2 pint of water let it dry in the sun for a couple of hours I then neutralized with vinegar. This is the result with a couple of coats of finish appied.

Mitch, Man that is a nice rich color. Did you use bone black or something like it ,for the darker tones? Do you have pics of the assembled piece ? if so , please post. Would love to see this beauty. Nate

That looks really good! I've got a project coming up stocked in cherry, so this is especially interesting. Are you cutting the vinegar or using it full strength?

Very nice. I'm a fan of lye (in whatever form) on cherry.
