There is a picture of a pistol and 1/2 stock rifle by Palemon Powell listed in Book II of 126-7 of Ohio Gunsmiths and Allied Tradesmen. Quite a bit of material is listed on pp 88-89. He seems to have been active in Cincinatti, Ohio from as early as 1829 to around 1880-something. He had a shop that moved around central Cincinatti and he had several men working under him at times. Hustlar states that in 1850: "Powell had $1200 invested in his business. He employed five hands at a total of $140 per month. For the year ending 1 June 1850, he purchased five tons of iron at $250 and wood at $100. He made 150 rifles valued at $3000 and an unknown number of pistols and repairs at $340." The rifle in the picture looks like a walnut stocked sporting rifle with round cap box , teardrop cheekpiece, and a couple inlays; back action lock, typical late brass hardware.
