North Carolina rifle

This is a gun I've been working on for a while in my spare time, figured i'd finish it up before starting the next build. Its based on an original in Ivey's book. 42" rice 54 cal barrel , chambers lock, maple stock and hand made hardware. The bottom pic shows the color more accurately than the others. This rifle is going to be put to use soon on some wild hogs and i'm lookin foward to the hunting pics.

Thanks guys. Yes Brice, they built it while i sat in my rocking chair drinking my tea. I dont build them i just take the orders. The one holding the rifle is the journeyman smith and the short mean lookin one is the apprentice.

The rifle made it to its new home in south Alabama this morning. It  actually looks better in hand than it does in the pictures. Joe did a fine job of recreating #194 in William Ivey's book on North Carolina rifles. The rifle as you can tell in the photographs is very clean and well shaped. The architecture is spot on and flows very well. I like it a lot. I highly recommend Joe's work. I'll let you know how it shoots and maybe next month (when it cools down) I can post a picture of a big hog taken with the rifle. Which by the way now carries the name "Timber Rattler". Tim Cosby

Now the truth is out.  All those knives we thought Joe was forging are being done by his apprentice.  Here he is going to work on a blade saying "Get out of here Dad.  I've got to get to work!!"
