I looked at a very cool gun earlier today and need a little help trying to figure out what it was. At first glance I thought it was a British rook rifle but after a closer look I have my doubts. Half stock, damascus octagon barrel, brass trigger guard (not the usual clunky horn type that are on a lot of Belgian/German guns), side lock, small amount of very fine engraving, no set trigger, heavy barrel, burled walnut stock to die for, no maker any where. Several Belgian (ELG) proofs on the bottom of the barrel along with the usual array of numbers and letters. So I assumed it was just a high end Belgian rifle with no makers name what so ever. Having said that, on the top flat of the barrel is: Damas Turo. It appears that this engraving was originally gold filled since some of the gold remains. I passed on the gun since it had some relatively serious condition issues. I have tried to figure out what Damas Turo means and have met with little success. One source said that Turo could mean "Rook", which I found interesting or possibly tower. Anyone out there have any ideas what this could mean? Thanks, Jack
