I shoot whitetails too fellas!  Got this one on my farm yesterday, 5 1/2 year old buck I've been after for a bit and have a lot of history with.   ;D  Probably the biggest 6 point I've ever seen.  Shot with a .58 roundball.

I took this small racked big bodied 8 pt this morning with Samson my Bruton 62 cal. It was a 15 yd shot an it anchored him on the spot

This will be my first season hunting with any sort of black powder.  Earlier this year I got a .45 flintlock in a trade with someone from this forum and am looking forward to hunting with it during the Kentucky ML season next month.

Good Luck Cory!!...  never give up!

Hi Folks,
Posted this in another thread, decided to post it here too!

Had a successful hunt this past weekend, killed a nice young buck with my Bucks county styled rifle. Shot centered the brisket and pierced the heart, quick, clean kill. Really all I could hope for!
What a thrill, even after 47 years of hunting it still gets my heart trip hammering! Never gets old big game or small.
I hope everyone has as satisfying and successful season.
Best of luck to all,
Harry

Took this nice doe Saturday in VA. First deer with a flintlock, first rifle I have built. Cherry stocked .45 with roundball over wasps nest wad and 60 grains of ffg. Would like to post pictures of the finish rifle to get critques, as I was trying for a Virginia style rifle. I guess those belong in a different forum though.

Sawfiler..Nice doe..Good shooting!

Got in a couple of hours of hunting after a Christmas meal at my sister-in-law's. This 6 point came running in after I used an estrus bleat call, my .54 took care of things.

I had mentioned these cheap deer hoists in another thread, I would be lost without mine. With a bad back, bad hips and bad about everything else I wouldn't be able to load a deer without it.

Nice - once a 3-point, always a 3 point. Some time back in the 80's I think, I recall hearing that Arkansas had an open season on those 3 points, no bag limit, free tags.

Daryl... you western guys, north or south of the border, can count mule deer points any way you please, but that mature whitetail is a six point... ;)... and a fine one Osprey!  Congrats to Eric on the Christmas buck as well.  I'm counting down the days to Ohio's 4 day muzzleloading season starting January 6th...

One of the finest 6 points a person will see.  Ya we in the East count them different than in the West and North West.

Got a big doe at 9:30 AM, 1/7/2018 with my .54 shooting .530 round ball, .015 patch and 75 grains of 3fg. Got an 8 point the day after Thanksgiving and now this doe both with my .54 flintlock. I think I'll give them a break til next season.

Just one of many this old TC Hawkens has dropped. I was sneaking out the ridge looking down into a little crab apple thicket and spotted him laying in his bed. had to wait until he turned his head again to make sure it was a dear that i was looking at. He was covered in snow from the 6 inches of fresh powder we got the night before. had to give him a whistle to get him up out of his bed. Hit him right behind the shoulder and this is how he was laying when i walked up on him. Couldn't help but set the Hawkens down in his rack at take a pic. If ya notice he is not even gutted yet. Nice little 8 point.

Bowkill, how bout that one?  She aughta look familiar!  Took 2 with it this season. 2 spring longbeards, 2 deer and some squirrels last season with it.

JVavrek, coincidence how that worked out...but when I looked at my pics I thought the same thing... especially if you play with the lighting of the pics..

Yessir...I got sick of the turkey choke...had it bored out and jugged. It's much easier to clean now..I can shoot round balls now...but gave up a good 10 yard of turkey pattern. I wouldn't knowingly shoot a turkey beyond 30yds now. 20-25yds he's dead all day.

I have a 38" turkey barrel....going to build a dedicated turkey gun and not worry about the frustrations of cleaning it as it'll be shot a few times a year. The patterns are just awesome and I haven't seen a jugged gun that can compare. Though that jugged pattern would be dandy on pheasant and rabbit and such. I couldn't hit em with the turkey barrel.  But the turkey barrel was heck on squirrels at some pretty long range.

Pros and cons to both.  For a dedicated turkey gun I'm going back to the turkey barrel.

Here is a 7 pt I took this morning with my Bruton 62 cal iron mounted rifle. 20 yd neck shot put him down where he stood.

Nothing beats the feel of a handmade southern iron mounted flintlock on a cold frosty morning
