Those are nice handles Acer, and they do the job intended. The 6061 aluminum is harder than the stuff I used and hammer end does not mushroom as mine do with repeated blows.

You can drill and tap that end and screw a small carriage head screw into it.  Harden it if you want.  It also broadens the striking area.

Great idea with the carriage screw.  It's so simple that would never have thought of it.

....I've spoken with Steve Lindsay about his sharpening stuff, and he's willing to put together a "Kentucky Longrifle engraving tool set". He's in the process of redoing his website, so sometime after that we will get the set together....

Acer,

Have you heard anything more from Steve Lindsay about when he may offer this tool set on his website?  I didn't see it there today.  Thanks.

I am also curious when this set might be available from Steve Lindsay.

Thanks.

Finally did some folksy engraving that “counts”.  Long ways to go before I tackle a build based on a gun with fine engraving, but this works for a Fainot build, I think.  I’ve got a few more small accent cuts to make but am done for the day. Will post better pix when I get the gun together.

I stuck it in Bondo.  Seems to work well to hold a patchbox.

Rich; A fine job all around on your Fainot build, I like it!

Anyone attending the Southern Ohio engraving class: Remember to bring your bedding, you will have a bunk bed but bedding is your own business. Also; Have all the fun, Acer's class is well worth the effort, you will learn a lot.

Rich,
Really nice work on the Fainot box!

I'm really looking forward to the class.  I've been signed up since December, my bags are packed and the truck is warming up.  Wait!  What?  The class isn't until late September? :'(

I know the feeling.  A friend of mine in my club here in Florida and I are signed up as well and are really looking forward to it.  At my age and with arthritis in my back just standing at a bench all day should be a challenge.  I may have to figure out a way to do it while sitting on a stool, but I'm determined that with the help of Heaven above (and pain meds  ;)) I'll git 'er done.

Acer, if you would add me in on notifications of an engraving class, it would be appreciated.  I did look at the site today, and will contact them as soon as possible.

Moleeyes, I am happy to be in company with you.  Just wish it was something other that spinal arthritis.  That pain just never quits!
