2F Black Powder Loads in a 40 cal Bench Rifle
« on: September 26, 2017, 05:37:52 AM »
If what I am about to ask has been discussed before please advise me where to find it.
I have a 15/16"- 38" L. 40 cal barrel in a half stock rifle that is for table shooting. Twist is 1-48.
Has anyone done any 2F loading for a 40 cal and possibly chronographed any velocities for the loads.
I'm can't seem to find any published data for a 40 using 2F as all the charts I have found so far are based on 3F.
So far 2F Swiss and 2F Olde Enysford have grouped very well.
I look forward to reading any responses.

In a 66 twist 42" barrel offhand rifle I use 50 gr FFg At 25 and 50 yds. 75 gr at 100. Fixed sights. 75 groad chronographed will  2150 fps

Nothing is hard if you have the right equipment and know how to use it.  OR have friends who have both.

My .40, with slippery lube, required 75gr. 2F to match accuracy of 65gr. 3F, both GOEX and both loads produced 2,240 to 2,260fps.

With water based lubes I was able to use 55 to 60gr. 2F which ran 1,750fps., approx.

These were all good for 1/2" 5 shot groups at 50 yards off the bench.
