Thoughts on this flinter?

Not really my normal thing, but can trade into this Schutzen pretty well.

I haven't seen it, but he thinks it is a 50 cal and has been in his mothers closet for 30+ years. He said he can't see any rust in the barrel and the trigger/lock work just fine.

He hasn't fired it and knows nothing about muzzleloaders.

Its about an hour and a half away.

Oh, I can spend your money soooooooo easily! 

But if the price is right (for you-i'm not a party to the trade and have no "comps" to review) AND you find the bore to good enough to suit you, then by all means "collect" it. 

also-check for a charge in the bore.  Don't assume it's a terrible thing, could be fine once cleared. But mostly could be a bargaining chip if you need it.

As I said, this front stuffer is a little out of my fence...I have mostly Thompsons cappers and one custom flinter.

The lock appears to be a Bud Siler now being made by Jim Chambers if you need replacement parts.  I have been shooting that same lock for 35 years.  Quality product as is the barrel.

It's quite likely it's smaller than a .50 and the twist in the barrel is for a paper patched bullet, not a round ball.

A flint Schuetzen for a bullet? That would be an odd one. I would say it's
a round ball and I'd like to see a picture of the whole thing from muzzle
to butt plate.

  My mistake. I assumed they used bullets in all the schuetzen rifles.

If you can afford it, what are you waiting for?

You can try both round ball and paper patched bullets once you have the rifle, and see which performs best.
