Finally Finished this Moravian Rifle CLOSEUP images added.
« on: October 04, 2017, 05:38:30 PM »
This is my latest project and most ambitious project to date.  It is inspired my an Albrecht rifle with the two tailed dog.  I have always liked the original and wanted to do something similar. It is a .60 caliber Rice barrel.  I hope to test it out this weekend and then I will put it on the market.

Nicely done Cory!

I've always liked that rifle as well.  I've been debating making that same rifle!

Please do post more pictures!

I was just looking at the Moravian book the other day.  One of my favorites and you did it justice.  Very cool.
Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

LOVE that carving behind the cheek piece Cory. Nice firearm, I like what you did with the patch box also.

Cory,
The rifle is fantastic! Love your carving behind the cheekpiece especially. The matchbox is very nicely executed and, not in any way, your run-of-the-mill wooden patchbox. I love those early rifles and you did a great job. Keep it up and maybe one of these days, you will catch up with Mike Brooks!

That's pretty neat Cory!  There's lots to like in this rifle.
If you want to keep the jag (don't listen to Rich) drill and tap a hole into the end grain of the forward end of the box, and thread the jag into it.  It'll keep the jag from rattling around.  I use a chequering file and knurl the jag proper, so turning it into the wood is easy.

Can't really see all that well. Is that a Queen Anne sized lock or is that rifle so big that it is a Chambers  early English size??
Very nice rifle, I too am hooked on the big early rifles.

It is the Early English lock.  I debated using it and going with a more Germanic lock.  I decided to go ahead and use it because it is what I had on hand.  Plus since I was not trying to make an exact copy it worked.

Cory- I've always loved that original and really like your interpretation.  You captured the spirit.  Your incised carving under the cheek piece really gives it a fractur type flavor to me.
