Another old horn (maybe)??
Here is a horn I picked up at a gun show a couple years back, only because it is pretty white.
At the time I had no idea it might be an old horn, I just bought it in case I wanted to try and do some scrimshaw work. Plus with three Sons as well as Grandchildren it never hurts to have an extra horn laying around her along with the dozen or so others.
Anyway, later at home I noticed the initials "D.D. as well as the 1852 Date"
I stopped all thought of messing with it until I confirm its aithenticity.
The fact that the letters and numerals appear stamped has caused me to have some doubts.
Although by that date there were stamps being made I would suppose being pretty common??
The horn and plug look old enough. Again the knob maybe not so new?
But maybe added??
Yet I have heard there were professional horn makers and that knob would not be so hard to mass produce.
But then the basic plug is soooo crude.
Again, we will never know for sure.
Your opinions are very welcome.
Thanks
