This is my take on a horn on page 231 of Dr. Jay Hopkins book Bone Tipped & Banded Horns.
Tip to Tip it is about 10”, around the outside curve about 12 ½” The Walnut butt is about 2 ½”, held in place by the same Four wooden pegs that hold the horn band in place. The other Three bands were heated and pressed/tapped on and are held by Three wooden pegs each. The strap ring/collar, also heated and pressed on is held by Two. The color is AF with a coat of Saddle Tan Leather dye over it and Brown shoe polish.
Have not decided on the final look/style of the horn. The last Pic shows it with a Two Part antler tip on it, may or may not become permanent.

I like the looks better with out the antler tip. Not sure why as I have a few horns with antler tips. For me the antler tip takes something away from how sit looks with out the tip. Hard to explain. Nice Horn either way you go with it.

That's how I feel, hard to explain but not sure. Does the Two part tip take it from Va./E Tenn. to N.C.?

Not getting to tied to location, I like it with the tip. It doesn't look finished without it in my opinion. Might be why I have trouble with place specific styling when I build horns.

Very nice,tip just doesn't look right with this horn.Perhaps with a lighter colored horn just not this one.

I really like the looks of banded horns in general and this one is fantastic. As to the antler tip, to my eye it is too light in color for this horn. You do beautiful work, Sir.

Tim, Nice work as usual! I like the tip, but I feel that if would work better with this horn if it was darker in color.....to much contrast in my opinion.

Since there seems to be universal agreement on the horn itself...VERY nice....I'm going to enter the informal poll that's going on with another vote against the tip.
Too much contrast with the body of the horn. IMHO...this would be a great place for a dark "violin peg" sort of plug. Nice and simple.

If the tip were as slender as the it is on the original I would say no tip. Not sure of the inside of this horn so You're the artist. I think in this case I would add the tip.

Yes, the tip is different from the original, that's because this horn was not in mind when I started, it just evolved. The tip of the horn was tapered to fit the taper in the tip.
Thanks for all the suggestions, I think what I'll do is take it to a couple shows as it is but take the tip along, if a prospective buyer likes it without the tip that's good but if they like the tip on it I will pin it on for them.
