Had a Good Showing, Yesterday on the Trail
« on: November 28, 2017, 08:45:35 AM »
Beautiful day, slightly over cast, was raining but quit.
Norm, one of our smoothbore shooters who hit more targets than many of the guys with rifles, took the picture
then mailed it to me. I was going to take a group picture, but my camera batteries were dead. Guess I should
have checked them.
Taylor, in the bowler, is shooting, I'm loading.
Out of the 10 of us, there was one caplock, & he shot amazingly well, named Martin, the photographer's lad.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

That's The Great White North!!  We're experiencing a very mild November, and have been able to get out and shoot several Sundays this month.  It's nice to shoot without your fingers going numb.

Beautiful day - way overdressed, I was.  Didn't need gloves. I think the temp was up over freezing by 2 degrees.

The trail is blow the main range, Richard. We have some 54 targets along about a kilometer long trail through the bush. Taylor has just shot at close to 100 meter 'pail', I think. Target 14 is one after our 92yard 'heart' shot.  The pail is a heavy steel cylinder, looks like a 1/2 gallon pain can.  Pretty easy target. I think it's either than one, or maybe the 100 meter turkey.
Heck- I've shot that course enough, you'd think I'd remember what #14 was Good grief - this getting old deal!(that's my excuse and sticking with it)

Richard, this trail is on the property of the Prince George Rod and Gun Club, Prince George, BC.  We shoot it frequently, but attendance has been thin because of hunting season.  With the weather warm like this, we are getting a good turn out, and it is a lot of fun.  We built the trail in 1982.  Every so often, we change targets to make it interesting.  Closest is likely horizontal strings or the coroplast sheet full of 12 gauge hulls end-wise, about 10 yards, and furthest is a 14" circular disc at 109 yards.  There's a steel duck target at about that same range too.  The flying goose is a challenge...about 40 yards and moving fast right to left.  You have about 4 seconds to shoot but it picks up speed the longer you 'aim'.  It's been a long long time since anyone 'aced' the trail.

Considering where you and Taylor live, not a great deal of snow.  Here's a pic from our front yard just a few Novembers ago.  Central Va.

Yup.  We live 500 miles north of Vancouver, and last winter, they got more snow than we did!  Unusual.  We haven't had a decent winter in years.

That's why I've always loved Georgia winters; you get to wear a thicker T-shirt.

Waterfowl:  I appreciate your endorsement, but the truth is, Prince George is in the Central Plateau of the Province, and rather uninteresting as far as topography is concerned.  But mountains are close by east and west.  Robson is iconic for mountain beauty - no argument there.  We'd be happy to entertain you here though.
