Fred - so sad to hear of your wifel's passing - cannot comprehend how painful that must be, but am so glad you are finding some peace in the shop.
Best wishes to you and your kids.

I did not see this earlier, so I hope I am not too late in saying my heart goes out to you in the loss of your rear wife. Like many have said....you are a very talented builder and we hope you keep busy doing just that!

Fleener,,,,The red maple blank was a #5 from Dunlaps  and is quite hard. The Rice bbl is a "B" weight swamped, .50 cal X 46" lg. The lock is a Chambers Golden Age. The Bplate is a Bucks County from Hedgecock and the TG is Goehring's #47 BC. The side opening Pbox and release, Mcap, trigger and trigger plate, cheek star, 3 RR pipes, toe plate and brass bbl lugs are or will be hand made.

Have built Bucks County LRs using the Large Siler, Golden Age  and Late Ketland.........all from Chambers.  Have found that I like the Rice 46" bbl....looks nicer.

The top of the Bplate return has to be filed round  as well as the  the thumbnail which is also filed on both ends of the TG.

My Bucks County builds have evolved ....the early ones didn't have all the BC features. Have included a few pics of previous BCs.

Fred,
I am glad to see you motivating yourself back into building. I know how hard it is to lose someone unexpectedly and it is such an empty feeling. Glad you are pushing on and realize it is just taking one day at a time. Hope you stay very active on here because you have so many friends on here you it is amazing and truth is most have never met with you, but still see your friendly, helpful discussions! I look forward to hear a lot more from you for all us novices. I have one of those novice type questions for you. Of those three Chambers locks you mentioned above, which do you like best for a BC rifle and in a few short words, why?
Thanks again and your work is fantastic - don't rush out and buy a tavern tomorrow!

Thanks to you and others for your concern  and if the eyes hold up, plan on building some more.

Although the Chambers Late Ketland  is an English styled lock and most original Bucks County LRs use variously styled Germanic locks,  the Late Ketland has a lock plate shape  that I saw on one original BC LR....although it too was a Germanic styled lock. It also is an excellent performer.

My other  preferred choice  of a  lock for a BC LR would be the Golden Age.....many BC LRs have a similarly shaped lock and actually this lock would be more suitable and it's got the improved internals of the Deluxe Siler.

Both of the above locks "fit in well" w/ the BC wrist design....the "tail" easily centers on the wrist and both fit right in w/ the high lock location of BC LRs.

Below is shown the present build.....w/ a Golden Age.....Fred

I am so sorry to hear of your wife's passing.  It is a rough go having to loose that part of your life of so many years. I have almost lost my wife on several occasions and can't begin to imagine your pain.  She is in a far far better place now. Amen.  I too love to see your work. I look forward to seeing more of it.

Wonderful to see you building Fred.  You have a signature in your work that makes it unmistakeable, and I like it.  This patchbox is just pure class!  Outstanding work.

Thanks Taylor.  A compliment from a master builder is treasured. Have only seen 3 original BC LRs w/ multiple piece Pboxes and one was a full blown Daisy headed Pbox..... possibly are some others, so I took some license and made this one. Not as beautiful as the one on your Verner.

Thanks to all for your cconcerns  and compliments......Fred
