Here`s a rifle that I built some years ago, for my father. I built it when Davis first came out with their Early Germanic lock , I think about 10 years or so. I haven't posted it before , for one reason it is pretty much from the Fantasy School. The Maple stock was cut off the banks of the Fantasy River and, was too soft for good carving , and the home AF stain was made with water from Fantasy Creek. It has a 44 inch .50 cal. Rice barrel , Davis lock . Sand cast buttplate and guard The rest of the foofaraw was made by me. I thought this might be a good time to post this fantasy piece since Jon ," Kingsbury arm" was able to garner a "free pass" from Mike Brooks on his. Oh! I forgot that I did this one LONG after I should have known better!!

Very nice and creative Nate! I like the carving and inlays and the folk art whimsy of it.

Personally I like it a lot...! It's diffinatly got that folksy look to it...

No need to apoligize for that rifle. Any one would be glad to it . It has an antique look about it.
I like it, nice job. I'll bet even Mike will like it !!!

Fine rifle Nate. I like the originality of the decoration. ...lots of practice cutting straight lines there.

I like it. I'd call it more folksy than fantasy. I especially enjoy that folksy man in the moon, very cool!

Love that rifle Nate! Even though I've been lucky enough to see it a few times in person, I still get giddy when I see it.

I love it! I fully appreciate working within schools, but what is wrong with creating your own ideas or school? I hear a fellow named House did it and he's doing just fine,

I nominate the terms “new school” or “contemporary design” instead of fantasy. I know the term fantasy rifle is distasteful to many who work creatively outside documented 18th and 19th century work.

I'm with Rich,when I think of fantasy,I start picturing some goofy type of weapon that really wouldn't work in the real world.A mix of past,present and future that doesn't really mix except in the mind of its creator.

That's a cool looking rifle. I really like what you did with the carving behind the cheek piece! I'd vote for "new school" as well, a continuation of the art of the Longrifle. Thanks for posting!

The butt stock carving with the man in the moon is really imaginative. I've never seen the man in the moon inlay done this way before. It's great.

I really like it!
It seems to me to be a modern extension while retaining all the classical elements.
I think that is why people like it. All the classic elements, but with a different take on it.
