Cap or Flint?

I've tried Graf's 4f and wasn't too impressed. It sucked up moisture like a sponge.

I'll give Goex or Swiss a try next.

Prime with FFFg and leave the FFFFg at home...

I did that once and it worked pretty good. I used Swiss 3F for both. It should be even better with a good lock.

I have never had my 4f suck up moisture when in the pan except when there is fouling from a previous shot left in the pan.

I have more trouble with cap guns misfiring than flint. I just stick with flint... Allot more fun.

Ever try musket caps? It does make a caplock more reliable. Although as you said.......not as much fun as a flintlock.

My cap gun is VERY reliable. I cannot remember ever having it miss-fire. My flinters not so much- BUT- they ALWAYS go off perfectly at least the first 10 times when on a trail. Then, one gets a bit distracted, doesn't notice the flint has a hard round spot going to hit the frizzen and cause a miss fire, or a piece of fouling off the frizzen or pan blocking the vent - there are a number of things can cause misfires or flashes in the pan.

However- the first 10 shots or so, never a misfire, with either & never when hunting with them.
