I would like to mention for a couple of reasons some views on attending a Kentucky rifle show as a first time vendor or having a display. I was very concerned the first time that I had a display.

I had never done anything like this before plus being a little on the shy side I have always had trouble starting a conversation with strangers. Thanks to my lovely bride that never meets a stranger and can talk to a fence post I have overcome a little of my shyness.

My first time displaying was at the CLA show. I was very concerned that my work was not good enough to put out for all the world to see. I mentioned this to Mark Silver and Mark gave me a piece of good advice. He said that there will always be someone that can do what you think is better work. That should not stop you from displaying your work. The more I thought about it I felt he was right, so there I was with a table.  I found that not only did I have people stop and look but also made some pretty nice comments about my work.

I also found that all of the people at the show liked the same things that I did and that they loved talking about them. So now my darling bride looks at me and says "who is that man that is constantly talking at the shows", that would be me. ;D

I have also made many friends that not only share my passion about the longrifle and our early history but share my love for our great country.

So to all of you out there that are thinking about displaying at a show do not be afraid to do so. I can guarantee you that you will have a great time and meet some of the warmest and friendliest people on the planet.

I would like to introduce to the community a fellow long rifle enthusiast and a lover of our early history. He had his first display at the AL-KY Rifle Show. His name is William Benjamin but he goes by Jo. His interest lie with Lewis and Clark and the Corp of Discovery  but I can already see that he is broadening this interest. Please welcome Jo to our group.

Howdy Jo..!!
That's a couple of right pretty rifles you have there. How about some details for those of us that didn't make the show. I especially like the horn.. nice clean work.

Jim first off I want to welcome your friend Joe to the group.
Second is Jim you are correct. Last year was my first time at displaying two guns I built at the CLA show.
Yep I was very unsure compared to what I had seen others had for display.
But by Friday morning I had sold both guns. So I guess they were ok...
So don't be shy about your work an enjoy each show you attend.
See ya all at Lake Cumberland....!

Welcome Jo.  I heard about you from Jim, and am glad to see you picked a great man and a fine maker for your Vogler build.  He did a really nice job on that one, and I saw it "in progress" at the CLA show.  I hear you also bought a horn and bag from Ron Hess.  Hard to go wrong there, and it looks like y'all were set up next to each other during the show.  Ron's a generous, modest, and talented man.  Have you made it to Old Salem yet?  Great place to visit!   God Bless,   Marc
